Portage County Medical Reserve Corps Mission Statement

The mission of the Portage County Medical Reserve Corps is to assist local response efforts during a public health emergency or large-scale event.  Through a coordinated Volunteer Reception Center, health professionals (licensed and non-licensed) and community volunteers will come together to assist the Portage County Health Department with various assigned tasks.  Together we can all make a difference.

Who is eligible to join MRC?
The Medial Reserve Corps is comprised of local health professionals (licensed and non-licensed) and community volunteers who are able to assist their community during the time of a public health emergency such as chemical spills, influenza epidemic, or an act of terrorism.  The volunteers offer education and prevention services that improve public health infrastructure of their neighborhoods.
Can only medical professionals join the MRC?
No.  The MRC is the volunteer corps for all people interested in serving during a community event or local emergency response.  People of all skill sets are valuable to the Portage County Medical Reserve Corps.
All health professionals including but not limited to:
  • Physician/Psychiatrist

  • Physician Assistant

  • Registered Nurse

  • Licensed Practical Nurse

  • Pharmacist

  • Pharmacy Intern

  • Psychologist

  • Licensed Independent Social Worker

  • Licensed Independent Clinical Counselor

    Register Today!  Portage County MRC provides periodic information, training and all the resources you will need to be an active member.  MRC Service is ALWAYS voluntary.

    Is there liability protection for MRC volunteers?

     

    Ohio Revised Code 121.404 provides liability protection to registered Ohio Citizen Corp (including Ohio Medical Reserve Corp) volunteers during local, state or federally declared emergencies, disasters, drills and trainings.  It is necessary to complete the entire registration process to be eligible for liability protection.  The statute also exempts a registered volunteer's personal information on the Ohio Citizen Corps Database from public disclosure.


    What happens after I submit my information on www.serveohio.org?

     

  • Credentials checked (if applicable).

  • Get processed for your Identification Badge.

  • Complete training requirement in a three year time span.
