Job Opening
Clerical - Part Time

Due to financial difficulties, the Portage County Health Department will be forced to close for 10 business days. Beginning February 12^th through June 25, 2010, the Health Department will be closed on the second and fourth Friday of each month. The Board of Health will re-evaluate the financial situation and determine if layoffs or additional furloughs are needed.

The Portage County Health Department will be closed the following days:

February 12 and 26

March 12 and 26

April 9 and 23

May 14 and 28

June 11 and 25

In order to accomplish its mission, the Department's four main divisions perform a variety of functions critical to protecting the health, safety, and well-being of Portage County Families. These functions include:

Nursing Services

Immunization clinics for children and adults
International Travel Immunizations
Flu and pneumonia shots for senior citizens
High blood pressure detection
Disaster response
Day care training program
Control of communicable diseases, including tuberculosis
Medical Reserve Corps Coordination

Environmental Services

Inspection of restaurants, grocery stores, and vending machines
Inspection of sewage systems
Protection of the water supply
School health and safety including the inspection of cafeterias
Enforcement of motel and hotel regulations

Plumbing Services

Inspection of plumbing in all new private homes and commercial dwellings
Inspection of plumbing in existing homes prior to hook-up to sanitary sewer lines

Administrative Services

Registration of plumbers, garbage trucks, and septic system installers
Issuance of permits for all new water wells, septic systems, plumbing, and mass gatherings
Licensure of restaurants, grocery stores, trailer parks, vending machines, motels, swimming pools, marinas, and solid waste facilities
Maintenance of accurate and complete statistics and records on all aspects of public health
